From our Founder….

Greetings, fellow advocates and allies,

I am Jennifer Dalton, the founder of the Virginia Justice Alliance, and I am honored to share our first blog post with you. As someone who has been directly impacted by the flaws in our justice system, I am deeply committed to our mission of reform, rehabilitation, and equity.

The Virginia Justice Alliance (VJA) is not just an organization; it is a movement fueled by the collective determination to address the challenges faced by incarcerated individuals, their families, and our broader communities. We do this through three key pillars: education, support, and advocacy.

Education is crucial in empowering individuals with knowledge about their rights, legal processes, and the intricacies of the justice system. Through workshops, seminars, and online resources, VJA ensures that everyone has access to the information they need to make informed decisions and navigate the system effectively.

Support is at the core of our work. We understand the emotional, social, and economic toll that justice system involvement can take on individuals and families. That’s why we offer a range of support services, from education and mentorship to practical assistance with reintegration. Our goal is to provide a lifeline for those who need it most.

Advocacy is where we drive lasting change. By amplifying the voices of those affected by incarceration, we advocate for policies and practices that prioritize rehabilitation, reduce recidivism, promote equity, and break the cycle of incarceration. We engage in advocacy, grassroots campaigns, and coalition building to push for systemic reform that benefits everyone.

But our work is far from over. The challenges we face are complex, deeply rooted, and often met with resistance. That’s why I am calling on each and every one of you to join us in this fight for justice. Whether you’re a seasoned advocate or new to the cause, your voice, your passion, and your actions matter.

Together, we can build a future where the criminal justice system prioritizes rehabilitation over punishment, where individuals with justice system involvement are given the support they need to thrive, and where our communities are safer and more equitable for all.

Thank you for being part of the Virginia Justice Alliance. Let’s continue to educate, support, and advocate for positive change.

In solidarity,

Jennifer Dalton Founder, Virginia Justice Alliance
